چکیده

The spontaneous-emission branching fractions of 32 levels of Pr II were measured by the fast-ion-beam laser-induced-fluorescence technique. The levels studied had energies from ∼21 500 to ∼29 000 cm−1, and the decay branches detected were in the range from 250 to 850 nm. The experimental uncertainties are within 10%. Using our previously measured radiative lifetimes, we determined the Einstein A coefficients and oscillator strengths for 260 transitions. The results are important for stellar elemental abundance determinations. PACS numbers: 32.70.Cs, 32.70.Fw, 95.30.Ky

Fast-ion-beam laser-induced- fluorescence measurements of branching fractions and oscillator strengths in Nd II

We measured the spontaneous-emission branching fractions of 46 levels in Nd II, selectively populated via single-frequency laser excitation of a 10 keV ion beam. The levels studied had term energies up to 29 955 cm−1, and decay branches with spontaneous emission in the range 372–850 nm were detected. The experimental accuracy for branching fractions over 0.1 was ∼7%. We used these branching fra...

Determination of polarizabilities and lifetimes for the Mg, Zn, Cd and Hg isoelectronic sequences

The dipole polarizability and adiabatic correlations of atomic ions are related to the energy levels and oscillator strengths of the levels through bracketing inequalities. For systems with a ground state ns2 S0, the total oscillator strength is dominated by the unbranched intrashell ns2 S0–nsnp P1 transition, and the remaining oscillator strength can be narrowly bracketed using the f -sum rule...

Optical Opacity of Laser Induced Plasma in Distilled Water with NaCl and TiO2 Nanoparticles Impurities

In this paper, the dynamic behavior of laser induced optical breakdown in impure water was studied by using a pump- probe technique. The plasma was induced by a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser pulse (with pulse duration ~10 ns) in distilled water with two types of impurities: (I) a solution (highly diluted salt water as a conductor) and (II) a colloidal (TiO2 in colloidal nanoparticle form as a dielectric...

Collinear laser - beam — ion - beam measurement of the mean lifetime of the Ar II 4 p ' F 7 & 2 level

The mean lifetime w of the 4p' 'F7/2 level of Ar II has been measured using a variant of the collinear laser-beam —fast-ion-beam spectroscopy technique. Our variant requires no mechanical motion or laser frequency tuning. The result is ~=8.414+0.025 ns in agreement with an earlier, comparably precise, measurement based on a crossed laser —ion-beam technique. The result lies above all theoretica...

Laser-induced Fluorescence Velocimetry of Xe II in the 30-cm NSTAR-type Ion Engine Plume

We present laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) measurements of Xe II (4D7/2) in the FMT2 ion engine plume. Three 605.1 nm beams from a ring dye laser are focused through a single lens into a submillimeter interrogation volume, from which we collect LIF at 529.2 nm. Fourier-transform deconvolution of the LIF spectra returns ion velocity distribution estimates along the three laser beam directions. ...
